Here you'll find the latest news and events from the Australian Studies Centre, as well as information about conferences, seminars and roundtables aimed at strengthening the academic cooperation between Uruguay and Australia.

On 21st June the Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN), the Department of Education and Training (Australian Government) and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) organized in Buenos Aires the first workshop on "Scientific Research Methods and collaboration with the Industry in Australia".
Professor Thiomir Ancev from the University of Sydney visited the Australian Studies Centre (ASC) from 12th to the 18th June.
Senator the Hon Stephen Parry, President of the Australian Senate, visitied the Australian Studies Centre on Monday, 5th June.
Dr. Nicolás Gambetta received the “COALAR Australia Latin America Young Entrepreneur Award from the Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR), established by the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Gambetta is academic coordinator of postgraduates degrees in accounting and taxation in the School of Management and Social Sciences and executive board member of the university’s Australian Studies Centre.
On the 24th May the Australian Studies Centre received its first visiting professor, Colin Barrow, Chair of Biotechnology and Director of the Centre for Chemistry and Biotechnology (CCB) at Deakin University.

The Australian Studies Centre (ASC) was officially launched at Universidad ORT on the 24th November 2016. A successful start was followed by the first Board Meeting held on the 2nd March 2017 at ORT, where most members attended the meeting both, onsite and remotely.

ASC’s main objectives

ASC’s main objectives

  • To organize conferences, seminars and roundtables about Australian current issues and their relationship with the region.

  • To promote overseas study and student exchange programs.

  • To promote academic cooperation with Australian universities, in particular faculty exchange programs and activities in support of the Uruguayan postgraduate system.

  • To develop courses on Australian history, politics, international relations, economics, business, society, education, culture, literature, sustainability and environmental topics.

  • To develop comparative research projects between Australia and the region.
