We thank Ambassador Noel Campbell for his permament support to the ASC and share his interview on the role of The Australian Studies Centre after his visit to Montevideo to participate on the 2nd ASC Board Meeting.
Last Friday 9 March we received the visit of Cathy Raper, Head of Europe and Latin America Engagement at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of Australia.
Dr Francisco Rosas, one of ASC research colleagues, was invited to AARES Annual Conference to present his paper on “The effect of irrigation on income volatility reduction: A prospect theory approach”.
The Australian Technology Network (ATN) has announced an Australia-South America PhD research program. They are offering ten scholarships for students from the region to study at ATN universities for up to 3.5 years.
Last December, the ASC received the visit of Ms Natalie Collard, Board Member of COALAR, the Council for Australian and Latin-American Relations.
Dr. Nicolás Gambetta, Executive Advisory Board Member was invited by Ambassador Noel Campbell to participate in a reception held at his residency in honor to Minister Steven Ciobo on the 11th December in Buenos Aires.
The Australian Studies Centre (ASC), together with UNESCO’s International Geoscience and Geoparks Programme (IGGP) and Dinamige (National Board for Mining and Geology) organised a series of conferences on Earth Science education with ASC visiting Professor Greg McNamara.
On 21st June the Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN), the Department of Education and Training (Australian Government) and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) organized in Buenos Aires the first workshop on "Scientific Research Methods and collaboration with the Industry in Australia".
Professor Thiomir Ancev from the University of Sydney visited the Australian Studies Centre (ASC) from 12th to the 18th June.
Senator the Hon Stephen Parry, President of the Australian Senate, visitied the Australian Studies Centre on Monday, 5th June.
On the 24th May the Australian Studies Centre received its first visiting professor, Colin Barrow, Chair of Biotechnology and Director of the Centre for Chemistry and Biotechnology (CCB) at Deakin University.
The ASC announces the appointment of Magdalena Narbondo as Manager of the Australian Studies Centre.
ASC’s main objectives

ASC’s main objectives

  • To organize conferences, seminars and roundtables about Australian current issues and their relationship with the region.

  • To promote overseas study and student exchange programs.

  • To promote academic cooperation with Australian universities, in particular faculty exchange programs and activities in support of the Uruguayan postgraduate system.

  • To develop courses on Australian history, politics, international relations, economics, business, society, education, culture, literature, sustainability and environmental topics.

  • To develop comparative research projects between Australia and the region.
