More than 30 students from the University of New England (UNE) from Armidale Australia, and a group of four faculty members visited Uruguay in June on an agriculture studies ground tour.

The Australian Studies Centre received the committee from the Faculty of Science, Agriculture, Business and Law at UNE and welcomed the group on their first study tour in Uruguay.

The UNE is mainly focused on agriculture science and business and were interested in collaboration through the ASC on student exchange, joint research and agriculture development projects with Uruguay.

We would like to thank Derek Baker - Professor of Agribusiness and Value Chains, Dr. Stuart Mounter - Senior Lecturer at UNE Business School, Peter Lloyd - UNE Business School and Sally Strelitz for their visit.

Extending our thanks to the Honorary Consul of New Zealand, Ricardo Shaw, for having organized their visit.

The ASC looks forward to future collaboration with UNE.

ASC’s main objectives

  • To organize conferences, seminars and roundtables about Australian current issues and their relationship with the region.

  • To promote overseas study and student exchange programs.

  • To promote academic cooperation with Australian universities, in particular faculty exchange programs and activities in support of the Uruguayan postgraduate system.

  • To develop courses on Australian history, politics, international relations, economics, business, society, education, culture, literature, sustainability and environmental topics.

  • To develop comparative research projects between Australia and the region.

On June 20th 2018, Chris Gale, Chairman at COALAR (Council for Australia and Latin America Relations) from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) visited the Australian Studies Centre, having met with Board Members and Executive Team.

On Friday 9 March 2018 we received the visit of Cathy Raper, Head of Europe and Latin America Engagement at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of Australia.

We thank Ambassador Noel Campbell for his permament support to the ASC and share his interview on the role of The Australian Studies Centre after his visit to Montevideo to participate on the 2nd ASC Board Meeting.
