Biotech visiting Professor

ASC proudly announces the visit of Professor Colin Barrow from Deakin University.

Colin BarrowProfessor Colin Barrow, Chair of Biotechnology and Director of the Centre for Chemistry and Biotechnology (CCB) at Deakin University will be arriving in Montevideo on the 23rd May.

During his visit Prof. Barrow will visit the Research and Innovation Biotechnology Centre at Universidad ORT hosted by ORT member Dr. Lorena Betancor, Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Dr. Betancor and her team will be working with Prof Barrow on possible projects and joint research as well as planning a common Co-Directed PHD program between Deakin University and Universidad ORT.

We are glad to invite all students and faculty interested in attending Dr. Barrow’s conference on “Nano-Biotechnology for Food, Agriculture and Bioremediation” to be held on the 25th May at ORT Auditorium, City Centre Campus at 6 pm.

ASC’s main objectives

ASC’s main objectives

  • To organize conferences, seminars and roundtables about Australian current issues and their relationship with the region.

  • To promote overseas study and student exchange programs.

  • To promote academic cooperation with Australian universities, in particular faculty exchange programs and activities in support of the Uruguayan postgraduate system.

  • To develop courses on Australian history, politics, international relations, economics, business, society, education, culture, literature, sustainability and environmental topics.

  • To develop comparative research projects between Australia and the region.

On Friday 9 March 2018 we received the visit of Cathy Raper, Head of Europe and Latin America Engagement at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of Australia.

Dr Francisco Rosas, one of ASC research colleagues, was invited to AARES Annual Conference to present his paper on “The effect of irrigation on income volatility reduction: A prospect theory approach”.

In December 2017 the ASC received the visit of Ms Natalie Collard, Board Member of COALAR, the Council for Australian and Latin-American Relations.

We thank Ambassador Noel Campbell for his permament support to the ASC and share his interview on the role of The Australian Studies Centre after his visit to Montevideo to participate on the 2nd ASC Board Meeting.
